Bioenergy Villages - Sending an Important Signal 

With more than 40 per cent of energy use, the heat market constitutes the largest share of energy consumption and thus plays a decisive role in reaching climate goals. The installation of modern, highly efficient plants would save up to a third of the energy in the heating sector.

Bioenergy villages can contribute to this energy conservation. All households are supplied via local heating network, whose energy is obtained from regenerative fuels at the outskirts of the village. Either from utilizing agricultural resources in a biogas plant or by means of wood from the domestic forestry sector. Each bioenergy village is therefore a strategic sustainability project, which protects the climate and environment and ideally consumes no fossil fuels such as oil or gas.

Low entry costs

The connection fee for a household to a bioenergy village's heating network is usually around EUR 4500. Included in this price is a deposit for the operating company, which is usually a co-operative. The price of heat decreases by around 10-20 per cent compared to conventional oil-fired heating. In fact, the savings grow steadily during operation over a period of several years. The achieved CO2 savings amount to more than 50 per cent.

Regenerative District Heating: Many Benefits for  Municipalities and their citizens

The prerequisites for a bioenergy village can be described in simple terms: In most cases the county is located in a rural area and has between 500 and 1500 inhabitants.

Supply-secure and economical

The power station should be planned and built outside the village to avoid traffic caused by the delivery of the necessary biomass. The power station is designed to always offer a high supply security of heating and domestic hot water. Each household invests only once in connecting the house and thus has no further costs.

Permanently lower heating costs relieve the household budget and provide opportunities for other investments. For example, for insulation measures to further reduce heat consumption. Strengthening the regional economy and relieving the budget. The biomass required for the generation of heat is normally drawn from a radius of several kilometres.
